The Tesla Cybercab won’t be painted in the traditional sense. Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed that the Cybercab skips a conventional paint job. Instead, they’re using a new process where the color—currently a signature gold—is injected directly into the polyurethane plastic panels during molding. This eliminates the need for a paint shop, avoids issues like orange peel or paint bleed, and keeps the color consistent even if scratched, since it’s embedded throughout the material. This method could theoretically support other shades down the line. So, do you think the Model Q will also feature this new direct injection color method?
